Roots & Threads

Roots and Threads is a celebration of African identity, womanhood, and sisterhood, a visual tribute to the strength, beauty, and memory carried through generations. Using traditional fabrics, symbolic styling, and expressive hair art, the series shows how heritage lives within us: in the patterns we wear, the stories we inherit, and the ways we carry ourselves.
Each portrait uses fabric as a storyteller and hair as a crown of culture, honouring the artistry woven into African traditions. Set against natural, earthy tones, the women become grounded extensions of their origins, connected by shared history and collective resilience.
At its core, Roots and Threads honours the women before us, the sisters beside us, and the ones yet to come. It reminds us that identity is alive, passed through community, held in our bodies, and stitched into the threads that bind us together.
